This Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider renewal course is for healthcare providers, such as: Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and others in the healthcare field who care for children and infants in a variety of settings. You may register for the renewal course only if your card is still valid (has not expired). To prove your certification is valid, you must bring your original AHA PALS card that is not expired with you when you take this course. The expiration dates on the cards are honored until the end of the month they are set to expire on. If your cards are not valid, you will be asked to take the initial PALS course. Prerequisite for this course: Current BLS and PALS cards (Unexpired BLS and PALS cards) This course gives you the knowledge and skills you must possess to recognize infants and children who are at risk for pediatric emergencies, such as: Cardiopulmonary arrest, shock and respiratory failure. You will learn lifesaving skills and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrests in children and how to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in cardiopulmonary arrest, shock and respiratory failure. Training uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. Your American Heart Association certification card will be given to you the same day after successfully completing the training and is valid for 2 years.
